In 2015, the management team of NW Group – a leading provider of audio, lighting, visual equipment and services to the corporate and live events markets in Australia and New Zealand – were seeking a partner to facilitate an MBO, replace the incumbent investors and provide growth capital to expand the hire fleet into new sectors and geographies.

Attracted by the Growth Fund’s track record of growing specialized equipment hire and services businesses such as SCF Containers and Australian Helicopters, CEO Matt Jones and his team elected to partner with the Growth Fund for the next phase of the business’s expansion.

Quadruple Olympians

Formed in 1999, NW Group supplies a range of audio-visual equipment and services to over 1,000 customers via branches across six cities in Australia and New Zealand. NW’s reputation for reliability and quality has made it the audio-visual partner for major live events including four Olympics, three Commonwealth Games, a Rugby World Cup and numerous major live music events.

Key to NW Group’s value proposition is its ability to provide a full-service, turnkey solution, with a team of over 100 experienced technicians and over 70,000 pieces of equipment, ranging from small amplifiers to complex sound engineering equipment.

By building out the business’s service capabilities and through geographical expansion, The Growth Fund and the management team share a vision a to develop NW Group from its existing strong base into the largest full service audio-visual equipment hire and services business in Australasia.
